Instructions for a Child's PVC Woven Chair

Making a piece of furniture may seem like a daunting task for someone without carpentry skills. However, by using PVC instead of wood to make the chair's frame, it removes the need for building abilities. Create a seat and back for the chair by sewing pockets on woven fabric and inserting the PVC through them. Use your choice of fabric colors and patterns to create a unique chair for little out-of-pocket expense.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two pieces of woven mesh fabric into 18-inch squares. Cut a 3-inch square out of each corner of the fabric and discard it.

    • 2

Wrap each side of the fabric around one of the 18-inch PVC pipes. Use straight pins to attach the fabric around the pipes with 1/4 inch of space between the pipe and the fabric. Remove the poles, leaving two pieces of fabric with four pockets on each. Use a sewing machine to sew along the straight pins, securing the pockets. Remove the straight pins.

    • 3

Insert the four pipes back into one of the two squares. Attach the four pieces of pipe in the pockets together by applying PVC glue to the ends of the pipe. Then, place two 4-way PVC plastic pipe fittings and two 3-way PVC plastic pipe fittings onto the ends of the pipe to create the seat.

    • 4

Reinsert three of the pipes into the second square of fabric. Leave the fourth pocket empty. Attach the three pipes together using PVC glue and two 2-way PVC plastic pipe fittings to create the back. Apply PVC glue to the ends of the unconnected pipes and insert them into the open joints of the 4-way pipe fittings in the seat piece.

    • 5

Create a base for the chair by connecting four more of the PVC pipes into a square shape, connecting the ends with four 3-way PVC plastic pipe fittings.

    • 6

Place the base with the open joints pointing up. Apply PVC glue to the ends of the four remaining pipes and insert them in the joints. Place the seat of the chair onto the four poles you just inserted to finish the chair, placing the pipes into the 4-way pipe fittings.

    • 7

Allow the PVC glue to dry for 24 hours before using.
