How to Assemble a Recliner

Recliners allow you to kick back and relax without wasting a lot of living space on furniture. When it is time to move your recliner into another room, you can take it apart and reassemble it instead of trying to fit a large chair through a small doorway. Most manufacturers include assembly instructions in the recliner's owner's manual. If you no longer have your original manual, you may be able to download a copy from the company website.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the arms to the frame of the chair. Tighten the retaining bolts with an adjustable wrench.

    • 2

Place the seat on top of the recliner frame. Tilt the seat up and tighten the two screws that connect the back of the seat to the recliner's arms.

    • 3

Tip the chair over so it rests on one of the arms. From the underside of the chair, locate the screws or pins that hold the front of the seat in place.

    • 4

Lower the backrest into the slot behind the seat until the metal levers snap into place. Ask an assistant to help you with this step if the backrest is too heavy to lift alone.
