How to Fold the Corners on Chair Upholstery

When you need to spruce up your seats, don't run to the furniture store -- reupholstering the cushions is a reliably less expensive way of making your chairs look brand new. Once your fabric is measured and you're ready to start attaching it to the cushion, you may find that it bunches up in the corner. Instead of cutting or altering the fabric, which may compromise its integrity, simply fold the corners to eliminate wrinkles and give your cushion a professional-looking finish.

  Lay the fabric face down on the floor and place the cushion in its center, padded-side down.

  Pull the fabric around one edge of the cushion. Staple it to the bottom side of the cushion (which is facing up) in the center.

  Staple the fabric to the cushion at 1-inch intervals toward either corner, stopping 3 inches from the corner.

  Pull the fabric around the edge of the cushion on the adjacent side and staple it the same way as you did on the first edge. When you reach the corner, pull it tightly on either side of the corner, then fold the excess fabric under itself, as though wrapping a gift. With the fabric folded under itself in a triangle, pull it tightly and press it against the cushion. Staple it in place twice, as the folded fabric is thicker and may resist more.

  Repeat with the other sides of the cushion, working your way around to where you started.
