How to Dye a Recliner

Recliners are an essential part of any furnished living room for anyone interested in kicking back and relaxing. While recliners add to the aesthetics and comfort of a room, they will quickly become an eyesore if they are looking rough. A stained recliner may need a fabric dye to recapture the luster of the furniture. Whether you are refinishing a leather or cloth fabric recliner, the task is completed in no time when you put your mind to it.

Instructions

Clean the area you wish to dye. Dampen a clean cloth with warm water and mild soap. Rub the area in small circles to remove any surface stains, dirt or grime. Skip to step 3 if you do not have a leather recliner.

Saturate a clean rag with leather deglazer. Rub the deglazing agent into the same area, as final preparation for dying. Deglazer removes glazing elements to allow the dye to absorb into the leather. Follow deglazer label instructions. Purchase deglazer at any leather furniture store.

Coat the area with an appropriate color dye. Dab a foam brush into the dye. Swab the area with dye in one direction. Allow 90 minutes for the dye to dry before applying a second coat. Purchase a foam brush at any craft store.
