How to Adjust the Foot Rest on a La-Z-Boy Recliner

The La-Z-Boy company manufactures and sells a wide variety of recliners, and according to their website, created the first one in 1928. The recliners are heavily cushioned chairs with a foot rest that raises up to support your feet, thus transforming the chair into a reclining position. Most La-Z-Boy recliner models have adjustable foot rests with three different height positions that lock securely into place. Adjusting the footrest into one of these positions takes only a few seconds to create a comfortable seating experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Look in the front and back of the La-Z-Boy recliner to ensure there is adequate space to use the foot rest. In general, there must be at least 2 to 3 feet in the front and rear of the chair to avoid damaging walls and furniture.

    • 2

Sit down comfortably in the recliner seat and place your hand on the lever located on the right side of the chair near the floor. This lever controls the footrest.

    • 3

Grasp the lever firmly in your hand and raise it to one of three positions. Raise it until it points to the ceiling to lift the footrest by 4 or 5 inches. Push the lever further to approximately an 11 o'clock position to elevate the legs halfway, and push it all the way back to raise the footrest parallel to the floor.

    • 4

Lower the footrest when you are ready to rise by pushing it toward the back of the chair as far as possible and then immediately pushing it forward to the starting position.
