How to Make a Vanity Chair Out of a Regular Chair?

Vanities usually sit lower than a regular desk or table, and they may necessitate a slightly shorter seat. You can modify and re-purpose an existing dining chair for use with a vanity by shortening the legs and padding the seat. Choose a small chair that's narrow enough to fit between the legs or sides of the vanity. You can paint the chair to match the vanity, or leave it as-is for an eclectic look.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut the feet with a circular saw to lower the chair until your legs and the chair can fit comfortably beneath the counter. Apply felt or plastic floor protectors to the bottom of each leg.

    • 2

Pry the chair seat from the frame. Measure the seat. Paint the chair as desired.

    • 3

Cut a piece of thick batting to fit the top of the seat and wrap around the edges. Add 2 inches to each side measurement, and cut a piece of fabric to fit.

    • 4

Place the batting and fabric on top of the seat, and wrap the fabric around the bottom. Staple the fabric in place.

    • 5

Cut a piece of sticky-backed felt to fit under the seat. Remove the backing and press the felt against the bottom of the seat, covering the fabric ends.

    • 6

      Replace the chair seat.
