Pour white vinegar onto a soft cloth and wipe down the chairs to remove leather odors. While wiping the chairs you'll also be removing dust and grime embedded in the grain. White vinegar neutralizes odors and is a safe alternative to chemical cleaners. Allow the chairs to completely dry and wipe them down again to remove any remaining liquid. The strong vinegar smell will fade away after a couple of hours.
Shake baking soda on your chairs and allow to set overnight, then vacuum. Baking soda absorbs leather and other odors from your chairs and keeps them smelling fresh. Use your vacuum cleaner's crevice-tool attachment to reach deep into the folds of the chair to ensure all traces of baking soda are collected.
Place briquettes of charcoal in small bowls on your chairs to absorb leather odors. Replace the charcoal every two days until the odors have resolved. Also, position a few bowls of charcoal in the room where the chairs are to freshen and neutralize the air. Never place charcoal directly on chairs to avoid discoloration.
Take your chairs outside in the sun to reduce odors. Sunshine neutralizes odors and disinfects while it freshens. Place chairs outside for a few hours every day until odors fade.
Mist your chairs with a commercial odor-neutralizing product. Odor neutralizers are considered safe for all fabrics, including leather and upholstered furniture. Use as often as needed for resistant odors.
