Reupholstering Antique Rocking Chairs

Antique rocking chairs are usually passed down from generation to generation and never go out of style. Although your rocking chair may have been originally owned by your great-grandparents, or perhaps you purchased it through an estate sale, you can give it an updated look. Reupholstering your antique rocking chair allows you to bring new life to an antique rocker.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws from beneath the seat. Place the screws in a safe place so you don't lose them.

    • 2

Take off the seat of the chair. Remove the old staples from the underside of the seat with the staple remover.

    • 3

Place the new fabric onto the old seat cover. Use the scissors to cut out the new seat cover using the old cover as a pattern. Repeat this process with the new batting and the old foam from the seat.

    • 4

Place the batting on the seat. Staple each corner of the batting to the seat to hold it in place.

    • 5

Flip the seat over onto the new fabric.

    • 6

Pull the fabric tight over one side of the seat. Staple the fabric to the bottom of the seat. Place the staples approximately 1 inch apart. Repeat on each side of the seat.

    • 7

Fold the fabric tightly around the corner of the seat. Add two staples on either side of all four corners.

    • 8

Put the seat back onto the frame of the chair and replace the screws that you removed.
