How to Keep a Rocker From Scratching Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are susceptible to scratches from the movement of furniture across the surface. Rocking chairs are one type of furniture that can damage hardwood floors. Covering the whole floor with carpeting is one option but then you have to give up the look and beauty of hard wood flooring. Rather there is a way to keep the look of the hardwood floored rooms while protecting the look of the floor from rocking chair rockers grinding against the wood.

Things You'll Need

  • Cleaning cloth
  • Measuring tape
  • Felt strips with adhesive backing
  • Scissors
  • Area rug (optional)

Instructions

      Turn the rocking chair over and wipe the dirt and grime off the rockers.

      Measure the length and width of each rocker.

      Cut the felt strips, also called felt chair guides, into pieces the length and width of each rocker. You may need to cut multiple pieces to match the length and width of each rocker.

      Peel off the adhesive backing of the felt trips and apply them to the bottom of the rockers with the adhesive side facing the rockers. Run your hands over the felt to secure it in place.

      Place an area rug underneath the rocking chair if you do not want to adhere felt strips to the rockers.
