How to Make a Parsons Chair Slipcover Without Sewing

A Parsons chair is a large, straight-backed chair that is ideal for a dining chair or as an accent in a corner of the room. Cover your Parsons chair to give it extra style and to help it blend in with the rest of your home decor; you can even make several no-sew slip covers in various colors and switch them out throughout the year.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the Parsons chair to determine the size of your slipcover. Measure the width of the chair back at its widest point; call this measurement "A." Measure the height from the seat base to the top of the back; call this measurement "B." Measure the height of the seat base from back to front and call this measurement "C," then measure the width from side to side and call it measurement "D."

    • 2

Cut two pieces of fabric that are "A" plus 1 inch wide and "B" plus 1 inch tall.

    • 3

Fold up one short end of each piece by 1/4-inch toward the wrong side of the fabric. Press with an iron on an ironing board, then fold up again by 1/4-inch and press again. Gently unfold the pressed seams you created and place a line of fabric glue between the folded layers of fabric to glue the seams into place.

    • 4

Place one of these fabric pieces on the table in front of you with the right side facing up. Draw a thin line of glue all the way around the left side, top and right side of the fabric, keeping the line as close to the cut edges of the fabric as you can. Position the second piece of fabric on top of the first and press around the edges to seal the glue. Allow these to dry, then turn them right side out and slide them over the back of the Parsons chair to cover it.

    • 5

Cut one piece of fabric that measures "C" plus 1 inch tall by "D" plus 1 inch wide; call this piece "1." Cut two pieces that are "C" plus 1 inch by 6 inches (pieces "2" and "3") and another piece that measures "D" plus 1 inch by 6 inches (piece "4"). These pieces will form the base and sides of the chair seat cover.

    • 6

Fold and iron the top edge (the "D" length) of fabric piece "1" toward the wrong side of the fabric by 1/4 inch, then 1/4 inch again. Glue this seam in place. Repeat this process with each 6-inch side and one long side of pieces "2," "3" and "4."

    • 7

Position piece "1" on top of the table with the right side facing up. Position piece "2" right side down on top of piece "1," lining up the raw edges on one side. Place a line of glue between these edges and press. Repeat this to attach piece "3" to the other side and piece "4" to the bottom edge, leaving the hemmed edge unjoined.

    • 8

Use a grommet kit to attach a grommet to each top corner of the base cover on the hemmed edge of piece "1." Cut two 10-inch lengths of ribbon and thread them through each grommet, then use those to tie the seat cover to the Parsons chair.
