How to Make My Own Bed Crown for a King Size Bed Out of Wood

Cut three pieces of 1-by-4-inch pine lumber to construct the bed crown's shape. The front piece needs to be 70 inches long. Make each side piece 7 inches long. Sand the wood using medium-grit sandpaper.

Paint the wood with flat, latex wall paint a color that complements the bedroom’s decor. Apply two coats for full coverage. Let the paint dry four to six hours between coats.

Place the crown's front piece lengthwise on your work surface. Rest it on one of its long 1-inch sides. Apply wood glue to each 1-by-4-inch end of the front piece. Press one 7-inch long side piece into the wood glue on one end of the front piece. Press the other 7-inch long side piece into the wood glue on the front piece's other end to create a three-sided rectangle. Make the edges flush between the front piece and both side pieces. Hammer one nail into each corner where a side piece adjoins the front piece.

Place one metal L-bracket into each corner where the front and side pieces meet. Secure the brackets by placing one screw through each bracket hole.

Turn the three-sided rectangle face down on your work surface so the side pieces are point upward. Place a piece of fabric that matches your room’s decor along the back of the three-sided rectangle. Starting with the side piece on the right side, gather and attach the fabric to the wood using a staple gun. Attach fabric until you reach the center of the front piece. Repeat the process with another piece of fabric on the left side of the three-sided rectangle.

Attach one picture-hanging ring to the 1-inch wide exposed edge of each side piece. Position each ring 1 inch down from the top edge.

Place two wall anchors 70 inches apart in the wall where you want to put the bed crown. The height of the wall anchors depends how high you want the bed crown. To install a wall anchor, drill a 1/4-inch hole in the wall. Push the wall anchor into the hole. Insert a 2-inch long screw in the wall anchor, leaving 1/2 inch of the screw outside the wall. Repeat the process for the other wall anchor and screw. Hang the finished bed crown from the screws. Drape the fabric on each side of the bed.
