Instructions

    • 1

Place two pieces of 1-by-5-by-12-inch pine on your work surface. Place them on their 1-inch sides with the 12-inch sides facing one another. Perpendicularly to the two 12-inch pieces, place two pieces of 1-by-5-by-11-inch pine on their 1-inch sides. Slide the 11-inch pieces in between the 12-inch pieces, positioning them so their edges are flush the cut ends of the 12-inch pieces, creating a square. Apply wood glue where the pieces meet. Hammer two 3-inch nails through the 12-inch piece into each of the 11-inch pieces to secure them.

    • 2

Cut both ends of two pieces of 1-by-5 1/2-by-12-inch molding at a 45-degree angle using a miter saw. Cut the ends on the same angle. Cut two pieces of 1-by-5 1/2-by-11-inch crown molding at a 45-degree angle. Cut them on the opposite angle as the first two pieces.

    • 3

Attach the four mitered pieces to the outside of the board box you created in Step 1. Apply wood glue to the back of the molding and press it to the boards, placing the 11-inch pieces on the 11-inch side of the board box and the 12-inches pieces on the 12-inch boards. Position the mitered corners together and ensure they are flush. Hammer one finishing nail through each end of the molding and into the wood box underneath.

    • 4

Screw four eyebolts into the top of the wood box. Place one bolt at each corner of the box. Once the bolts are inserted, apply a thin layer of lipstick to the tops of the bolts. Lift the mold-covered box to the ceiling where you want to hang the canopy. Press the bolts against the ceiling to transfer the lipstick to the ceiling. Twist one eyehook into each of the lipstick marks.

    • 5

Measure the height of the ceiling to the floor. Cut four pieces of fabric measuring 24 inches by the height of the room. Fold over all four edges of each piece of fabric by 1/4 inch. Sew along the folded edge using a straight stitch with a sewing machine.

    • 6

Fold the 24-inch side of one of the fabric into 1-inch pleats. Use a staple gun to attach the pleated end of the fabric to the inside of the wooden board box.

    • 7

Place the eyebolts on top of the canopy onto the ceiling eyehooks. Drape the fabric around the bed as desired.
