Instructions

    • 1

Set a 1-by-24-by-38-inch birch board down with its most attractive side facing down on the working surface. Position a 35-inch birch 2-by-4 parallel with one of the long sides of the large birch board, which is the footboard. Set the 2-by-4 6 inches from one of the long sides of the footboard, which will now be the bottom side of the footboard. Space the 2-by-4, which is a short support board, evenly on the footboard, and drill six 2-inch wood screws into the short support board.

    • 2

Position another short support board parallel to the first one and above it, leaving a 3 1/2-inch space between the two boards. Fasten the short support board to the footboard with six 2-inch wood screws.

    • 3

Repeat these steps to create a headboard with a 1-by-36-by-38-inch birch board and two short support boards, spacing the support boards the same distance from the bottom side of the headboard as they are on the footboard.

    • 4

Stand the headboard and footboard up on their bottom edges with the help of an assistant. Set the short support boards facing each other. Position a 77-inch 2-by-4 board between the headboard and the footboard, with each end resting between the two support boards on both the headboard and footboard.

    • 5

Slide the 77-inch board, which is a long support board, down until the outside surface of the board is even with the ends of the short support boards. Drill holes through both short support boards on the headboard and footboard and into the long support board. Attach the long support board in place with 5-inch wood screws. Repeat to add another long support board at the other end of the short support boards, leaving a 32-inch gap between the long support boards.

    • 6

Position six 35-inch 2-by-4 boards on top of the long support boards, with their large surfaces down. Drill two holes into each of the 35-inch boards, which are the mattress boards, and down into the long support boards. Attach the mattress boards with 3-inch wood screws.
