Lean the headboard against a flat surface, such as a nearby wall. Insert the connecting rails into the pre-drilled holes on the headboard. The connecting rails are the longest rails, while the crosspieces are shorter rails that attach across the middle. You should have three or more connecting rails that stretch from the head to the foot of the bed.
Lift the end of the connecting rails and tap gently with a rubber mallet until the rails snap into place on the headboard. Attach the connecting rails to the footboard. Slide the rails into the holes on the footboard, pushing the rails through the holes. Tap the front of the footboard with the rubber mallet for a tight fit.
Find the smaller holes on the connecting rails. Each hole holds in place the crossbeams, which support the mattress. Slide a crossbeam across the top of the bed, making it line up with the holes near the headboard. Insert a screw through the hole, attach a washer and wing nut and screw into place.
Attach the crossbeam pieces on the bed, until you reach the bottom. The number of crossbeam pieces depends on the manufacturer and the size of the bed. For each piece, add a screw, washer and wing nut to each end of the railing.
Shake the bed frame gently with your hands, feeling for any loose connections. If the bed wobbles or shakes, check each of the screws and gently twist with your hands, tightening the connection. Move the frame to the location you want and top with your mattress.
