DIY Elevated Bedframe

Elevating your bedframe can make even a small bed seem more prominent and important within a bedroom. It can also be beneficial if you are tall, and find that it is more comfortable for you to climb into a tall bed than to stoop to enter a low one. Raising a bed also allows you to store more items beneath the bed, ideal if you are living in a small space or simply hate to clean and often have unexpected company. Rather than spending money on an existing extra-tall frame, raise your current bed yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the correct type of bedframe risers for your bed. Look at the feet of your bed frame before you go shopping. If your bed has four small- to medium-size feet, you will need the type of rectangular risers that fit beneath each one. If your bed has large feet or the frame is shaped without feet, the clamp-on type of risers are more appropriate.

    • 2

Install the rectangular risers one at a time. With assistance, lift one corner of the bed until you can slide the full height of the riser beneath the foot. Carefully lower the bedframe foot onto the riser and repeat for the remaining three corners.

    • 3

Begin with either the head or the foot of the bed to install the clamp-on risers. Lift one end of the bedframe, with assistance, until you can slide one riser beneath the edge of the frame. Ensure that the riser is open, is parallel with the frame edge, and is approximately centered.

    • 4

Lower the bedframe edge into the riser and clamp it closed. Mount the opposite end of the bedframe onto the remaining riser using the same process as you did for the first one.

Make the bed using sheets and a quilt, comforter or coverlet just as you would if the risers were not present. If you would like to cover the risers, a bed skirt that fits over your box spring mattress and drapes to the floor is a solution.
