Directions for Futon Sofa Beds

Futon beds originated in Japan as thin mattresses, made of straw, that could be rolled up and put away when not in use. Although the way they are made today has changed, the concept remains the same. Whether you are planning to get a futon bed for your bedroom, office, living room or studio apartment, transforming your futon sofa into a bed may differ slightly between models, but it can be done in a few short steps at a moment's notice, making your space more usable.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the backrest on your futon bed forward until you hear a "click" or so that you can release the latch on the backside of the futon sofa.

    • 2

Push the backrest all the way back going in the opposite direction until it is parallel to the ground and clicks.

    • 3

Extend the footrest portion of the futon sofa until it clicks and until the legs are secured on the floor. The horizontal portion should be parallel with the floor.

    • 4

Place the extra cushion on the foot rest portion of your extended futon sofa bed. Some models do not come with an extra cushion, but instead come with the cushion already attached.
