Take off the sheets, pillows and any other mattress pads or covers. Remove the mattress and box spring.
Lift out the slats one by one from the frame. Note that some slatted beds have nailed or screwed-in slats.
Unscrew any holding screws keeping the slats in place, using a screwdriver. If the slats are nailed to the frame, use claw of a hammer to carefully pry them out. Lift out the slats.
Remove the screws in each of the four corners of the inside of the bed frame, using a screwdriver. Depending on the design of the frame, the screws may be on the inside edges or on the underside of the frame pieces. Remove the headboard and foot board if applicable by removing any screws holding the boards to the frame.
Lift each side of the bed frame away from the rest of the bed. Some designs may have each side interlocked into the end of the next side, so you may need to slide or lift each side separately.
