Simmons Mattress Types

Simmons Bedding Company --- which manufactured its first mattresses at a factory in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1870 --- is responsible for a number of innovations to aid consumers in getting a good night's sleep. Among its innovations are the predecessor to the Murphy bed, coil springs, and queen- and king-size mattresses. Today, the company sells traditional coil spring, foam-based and hypoallergenic mattresses at price points that range from economical to luxurious.
  1. Beautyrest

    • Beautyrest is the company's flagship line. Mattresses feature pocketed coil springs and high-performance memory foam or latex-foam layers. Simmons uses three measures --- a Motion Separation Index (MSI), Conforming Support Index (CSI) and Pressure Relief Index (PRI) --- to rate the comfort and support of each mattress in this line. The line features four models: the Classic, World Class, Exceptionale and NxG. Most have a 10-year warranty, except the NxG, which features a 20-year warranty.

    Beautyrest Black

    • This line is considered the higher-grade, luxury collection that uses the same technology as the less-expensive Beautyrest line on which it is based. Each has a 20-year warranty and uses the company's Variform Advanced pocketed coil springs that improve motion separation, increase durability and eliminate the need to periodically flip the mattress. Models feature additional comfort layers manufactured from wool, silk and alpaca, and extra layers of natural latex foam or memory foam.

    Natural Care

    • The three mattresses in this line, New Hope, Branch River and Pikes Peak, are manufactured from latex derived from natural rubber. These highly durable products come with a 20-year warranty, are soft, yet supportive, and are designed to relieve pressure points throughout the body. All are available in firm and plush versions. The natural-latex construction is biodegradable, making these mattresses more friendly to the environment than those made with synthetic latex. They are also naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, mold and mildew.

    ComforPedic

    • ComforPedic is Simmons' answer to the Swedish-based Tempur-Pedic brand of mattresses. This line features five models --- Blue Sky, Free Spirit, Harmony, Mystic and Fiji --- made with a combination of natural latex and memory foam. The company claims that these mattresses not only respond to body movements but also have the technology to dissipate body heat more efficiently, thus providing for more comfortable sleep. In addition to using the NxG memory foam found in the top model of the Beautyrest line, ComforPedic mattresses also feature a gradient-edge support system to improve stability and extend the sleeping surface to the edge of the mattress.

    Simmons Kids

    • These mattresses use the same technology as those for adult mattresses but are specifically constructed for the sleep and support needs of children and teens. Models range from the budget Slumber Time line to the premium Beautyrest Beginnings.
