How to Use a Mattress Pad & Comforter

Most people probably know that a comforter can be used on top of their flat sheet for extra warmth. What you may not realize is you can also use a comforter to perk up the top of a mattress that has seen better days. Mattresses can cost hundreds, even thousands, of dollars, but you shouldn't have to settle for backaches and sleepless nights because you can't afford to replace your old one. With a comforter or two and a mattress pad, your mattress can be almost as soft as new.

Instructions

Take all sheets off the bed so you are left with a bare mattress. Lay a comforter over the mattress, folding if necessary so it covers the top of the mattress. Add a second comforter, if desired.

    • 2

Unfold the mattress pad and arrange it so the short edges match up with the short edges of the mattress, the long edges match up with the long edges and any tags are at the bottom. Stretch the mattress pad over the corners of the mattress, just as you would a fitted sheet, and tuck any excess between the mattress and box spring. The mattress pad will hold the comforter in place and prevent it from sliding around and bunching up.

Make the bed as you normally would. Place the fitted sheet on the mattress over the mattress pad. Top the bed with another comforter if you need extra warmth.
