How to Turn a Mattress With a Pillow Top

A pillow top mattress is a specially designed mattress that has an added layer sewn to the top of the mattress. The pillow top layer is padded and can be soft and fluffy like an actual pillow. In order to reduce wear and tear and to prevent permanent body dents and lumps -- due to laying in the same spot night after night -- all mattresses should be turned from time to time. While non-pillow top mattresses can be flipped upside down and turned, you can not flip a pillow top mattress face. You can still turn it, however.

     Remove the comforters, sheets, and pillows.

     Lift the mattress using two people. Ideally, one person should be at the foot of the bed with the other at the head of the bed.

     Carefully rotate the mattress until the end that was at the head of the bed is now at the foot of the bed.

     Use your hands to fluff up the pillow top by hitting various sections with your palms. This will help to move the pillow top filling around and work out some small dents and lumps.

     Replace the bedding to complete the bed turning.
