Metal Bed Frame

• For a simple, inexpensive option, a metal bed frame is probably your best bet. It usually does not feature a headboard or foot board and is instead comprised of two side rails, end rails at the head and foot of the bed, and a cross bar in the center. However, you can attach many types of headboard and foot boards to a metal bed frame if you want to give it a decorative look. You can also purchase a metal bed frame with wheels attached so you can easily move the bed when necessary.

Wooden Bed Frame

• A wooden bed frame usually features a headboard and foot board, so it offers a more decorative look for your bedroom. Several types of wood are used for bed frames, but cherry and oak are two of the most common. Wooden bed frames are usually higher and sturdier than their metal counterparts. Slats beneath the mattress provide additional support while you are sleeping as well. As a result of their heavy-duty construction, wooden bed frames are usually more expensive than metal. You can find them in a variety of styles to match any décor. Some wooden bed frames even feature drawers beneath the mattress for additional storage.

Brass Bed Frame

• A brass bed frame is similar to a metal frame but is made of brass. It often features a simple head and foot board as well, composed of cross bars or posts. As a result, it usually has a more decorative look than a standard metal bed frame. The frame usually contains several crossbars beneath the mattress to provide additional support as well.

Sleigh Bed

• As the name implies, a sleigh bed has a frame that resembles a sleigh, with a foot board that curves out and down. It is usually composed of wood and has a very traditional, elegant look. However, because of its solid design and construction, it is usually more expensive than a standard wooden bed frame. It is an ideal option if you want a classical look for your bedroom.

Platform Bed

• A platform bed's frame does not have a headboard or foot board and does not require the use of a box spring beneath the mattress. Instead, the frame contains wooden slats to provide support and features an open area where the mattress is placed. Due to its design, a platform bed is lower to the ground than other bed frame options. However, it may contain drawers or other storage space beneath your mattress.

Canopy Bed

• For a truly dramatic look, opt for a canopy bed. Its frame typically features a tall post in each corner of the bed that extends over the mattress. The top of the posts usually support a frame that may contain a canopy roof or that is simply covered with fabric. As a result, your bed is enclosed by curtains or fabric panels to give it a more romantic feel. Canopy beds can be fairly expensive, but they are ideal if you want to make a bold statement in your bedroom.
