How to Figure Out Your Sleep Number

One alternative to the traditional one-size-fits-all mattress and box spring is a Sleep Number bed. Sleep Number beds allow you to adjust the firmness and softness on either side of the bed to fit your personal sleep style and body. This helps to alleviate back pain and provide a more comfortable night's rest. The key to experiencing the full benefit of this bed is to figure out your personal Sleep Number.

      Lie down on the Sleep Number bed as if you are going to sleep. Adjust your pillow as necessary and lie in your sleeping position. Have the Sleep Number controller in one hand.

      Adjust the Sleep Number setting to 100 with the "Up" directional button on the controller. This is the firmest position of the Sleep Number bed. Once you reach 100, push the "Down" directional button until the Sleep Number setting is at 20.

      Get comfortable and press the "Up" directional button to begin refirming the mattress. Notice how your neck, shoulders, hips and back feel as you gradually increase the setting. Once the mattress feels like it is comfortably supporting you, release the directional button.

      Sleep at the setting for a few nights. If you need to make adjustments the following morning, use the directional keys to raise or lower the setting by no more than five. Continue this process until you find the most comfortable setting for you.
