What Is the Best Way to Rotate a Mattress?

Rotating a mattress will prolong its life and prevent body impressions from forming on the mattress where you lie all the time. Every two weeks for the first three months and once every two months after that, rotate the mattress correctly to keep the mattress firm.
  1. Four Rotations

    • There are four different rotations necessary to keep the mattress in shape. If you keep track of the turns, you would sleep on a different spot of the mattress four times before returning to the original spot you were sleeping in the first day you slept on the mattress.

    The First Rotation

    • The first time you rotate the mattress, you will turn the mattress one-half of a turn counterclockwise to the left so the mattress is hanging off the boxspring on both sides. Flip the mattress over towards the headboard so the top of the mattress is now the bottom. Finish turning the mattress counterclockwise so the head of the mattress is now at the foot of the bed.

    The Second Rotation

    • The second time you rotate the mattress, turn the mattress one-half turn to the left counterclockwise so the mattress hangs over the boxspring on both sides. Flip the mattress over towards the head of the bed so the top of the mattress is now the bottom. Finish turning the mattress counterclockwise so the head of the mattress is now at the foot of the bed.

    The Third Rotation

    • The third rotation consists of turning the mattress one-half turn to the left counterclockwise so the mattress hangs over the boxspring on both sides. Flip the mattress over towards the headboard so the top of the mattress is now the bottom. Finish turning the mattress counterclockwise so the head of the mattress is now at the foot of the bed.

    The Fourth Rotation

    • The fourth rotation consists of turning the mattress one-half turn to the left counterclockwise so the mattress hangs over the boxspring on both sides. Flip the mattress over towards the head of the bed so the top is now the bottom. Finish turning the mattress counterclockwise so the head of the mattress is now at the foot of the bed.
