The Dimensions of Full-Size & Double Beds

A full-size bed is also called a double bed. Double beds are wider than twin beds, but not as wide as queen-size beds. The length of the double or full-size bed is the same as a twin bed, which is shorter than a queen-size bed. There are advantages and disadvantages to having a full-size bed.
  1. Dimensions

    • Double beds are 54 inches wide by 75 inches long. The bed is the same length as a twin-size bed, but the width is 6 inches narrower than a queen-size bed.

    Advantages

    • Double beds offer more sleeping space for one person than what a twin bed provides. Sheets for a double bed are cheaper than sheets for a queen or king bed. Manufacturers make queen/full comforters that measure 88 inches by 88 inches to fit on a double bed or a queen-size bed if you upgrade to a queen bed. Double beds will fit into smaller rooms that cannot accommodate a queen- or king-size bed.

    Disadvantages

    • People who are taller than 5 feet, 5 inches will find the bed too short. There are only 27 inches of sleeping space per person if two people share the bed. This is 12 inches less than the width of a twin bed, which is 39 inches wide.

    Bedding

    • Sheet sets are sold to fit the mattress length and width, as well as the depth of the mattress. Standard sheets will fit 7- to 9-inch-deep mattresses. Deep sheet sets fit mattresses 10 to 15 inches deep, and extra-deep sheet sets fit mattresses 15 to 22 inches deep. Fitted sheets for a double bed are 54 inches by 75 inches. Flat sheets are 80 inches by 94 inches. The sets come with two standard pillowcases measuring 20 inches by 30 inches. Full-size comforters measure 80 inches by 90 inches.
