Measure and cut 2-by-10-inch lumber into two 6-foot strips and a 5-foot strip, regardless of the size of the bed. Cut two more lengths of lumber to either 3, 4, or 5 feet for a single, queen or king bed. Cut two final lengths of lumber to either 2, 3, or 4 feet for a single, queen or king bed.
Apply a coat of paint or stain to one side of each of the pedestal boards and allow the paint to dry.
Connect the 6-foot strips to the 3-, 4- or 5-foot strips to create a rectangle. Place corner brackets inside interior corners of the pedestal and secure the brackets through the mounting holes with at least two wood screws per side.
Cut notches into the centers of the remaining strips, which will make up the center supports. The notches should measure 2 inches wide and 6 inches deep and should lock together easily.
Place corner brackets along the interior corner of the frame and secure each side of each bracket with at least two wood screws. Place the frame on the floor in the exact spot it will rest. Make sure there is an outlet nearby for the heating unit.
Lay the pedestal boards inside the exterior frame. Face the finished edges of the boards out.
Center the pedestal inside the exterior frame. Measure the distance between the frames on each side for accuracy.
Insert the notched sections of the interior supports into each other. Place the support inside the pedestal frame and spread them evenly. Continue assembling the bed.
