How to Make a 6 Foot Slide

A 6-foot slide can be used as an alternative to using a ladder for kids to get out of a raised bed. A slide can be placed on the edge of the bed, next to a ladder, and easily attached to the bed frame. To do this, you require tools and materials found at your local home improvement store.

Things You'll Need

  • 2-by-4 lumber
  • Pencil
  • Circular saw
  • Miter saw
  • Power drill
  • Screws
  • 2-by-6 1/2-foot metal sheet

Instructions

    • 1

Measure four lengths of 2-by-4 boards to 6 feet, and make a cut mark with a pencil. Cut the boards to this length with a circular saw.

    • 2

Cut a 45-degree angle onto both ends of two 2-by-4 boards with a Miter saw. One end will be flush to the bed and the other flush with the floor.

    • 3

Cut six 2-foot sections from another 2-by-4 board with the circular saw. These are the cross beams for the slide.

    • 4

Measure the two six-foot lengths of 2-by-4, and make a mark every 12 inches. Place the two lengths of 2-by-4 parallel on the ground.

    • 5

Place a 2-foot piece of 2-by-4 flat on the ground on each mark, along the length of the 2-by-4 boards.

    • 6

Drill two pilot holes into each of the boards by using the power drill. Insert a screw into the pilot holes and drive them into the boards.

    • 7

Place the metal sheet on the crossbeams of the slide. Position the metal so there is a 3-inch overhang on each end. Bend the 3-inch end of the metal to 90 degrees.

    • 8

Secure the bent end of the metal to the crossbeam on each end of the slide with screws. Set the slide up against the bed to test the fit.
