Dimensions of Twin Bed Quilt

A twin-size bed is a common choice for children or in areas in which space is limited. Commercially made twin-size quilts are available in basic sizes. Consider your style preference before purchasing a quilt. Many commercial quilts are designed to be used with a bed skirt and do not drop to the floor. In most cases, these quilts do not offer the extra material required to tuck a pillow. Pillow shams are frequently used as a decorative accent.
  1. Standard Twin Bed Quilts

    • The standard size for a twin-size mattress is 39 inches wide by 75 inches long. There are no standard height measurements for mattresses and box-springs. Common heights vary between 9 and 15 inches. The height of the mattress will affect the length of the drop, or overhang, of the quilt. The size of commercially manufactured twin-sized quilts vary a few inches between manufacturers, but are approximately 68 inches wide by 86 inches long. A full-sized quilt, measuring approximately 86 inches wide by 86 inches long, may be an option if you desire a floor length drop.

    Extra-Long Twin Bed Quilts

    • Twin beds are also available in an extra-long size. The extra-long mattress measures 39 inches wide by 80 inches long. The additional 5 inches makes the extra-long twin an appealing option for adults. These beds are common in dorm rooms in which space is limited. While not as common as a standard twin size, extra-long twin bed quilts are available in retail stores. These quilts typically measure 68 inches wide by 92 inches long.

    Daybed Quilts

    • Daybeds are a versatile bed choice for areas with limited space. The bed doubles as a bed and a sofa. Standard daybeds are constructed to use a twin-size mattress. A standard twin quilt is ideal for a daybed, but bedding specific to the design is available. Because the quilt on a daybed is only viewed on three sides, daybed quilts are traditionally more narrow than a standard twin quilt and are longer to provide a greater drop on the sides. The measurements of a daybed quilt are approximately 52 inches wide by 99 inches long.

    Homemade Quilts

    • Creating your own quilt or custom ordering are possible options if you are unable to find a commercially made quilt to suit your needs. Many quilt patterns have an allowance for the pillow tuck and offer a choice of drop length. A standard measurement for a twin-size quilt with a 10 inch tuck and a 15 inch drop is 69 inches wide by 100 inches long. You can alter these measurements to adjust for the height of the mattress.
