Double Beds for Teens

Teenagers seems to grow quickly, and before you know it, they seem too big for that twin size bed frame. Teens need space, and often a queen size bed will not fit into the room along with all their other belongings. A double bed, formally known as a full-size bed, is a suitable middle of the road option between a twin and queen size mattress. It provides slightly more width over a twin.
  1. Full Size Dimensions

    • A full size mattress is the same length as a twin size bed but is made wider, which can accommodate a growing teenager who needs more space on her bed in order to sleep comfortably. A twin size mattress is 39 in. wide and 75 in. long and a full size is 54 in. wide and the same length. The extra width provides more room to stretch out, although if space is a concern, it may be tough to fit this size bed into a bedroom, so measure accordingly.

    Platform Frames

    • The mattress frame is important to ensure the mattress itself gets proper support, which can help it last a lot longer. For those with storage issues, a platform bed is a popular choice for full-size mattresses. The quality of platform beds can vary from the low-end particleboard frame to a more expensive hardwood such as oak or maple. Platform beds allow for extra storage space because they are often have storage drawers beneath the frame.

    Futon and Daybeds

    • Another popular choice for teens looking to save space in their bedrooms is a futon. The mattress pulls out into a full-size bed and also provides a place for a teen and his friends to sit during the day or whenever he has company. Daybeds are another option for a teenager but are less likely to come in a full-size. Both of these frames can provide a place for friends to sit.

    Bunk Beds

    • For teenagers or cohabitants sharing a room under extreme space concerns, bunk beds are an option and do come in full size. Most people associate bunk beds with twin-size framing, but that's not the case. You can purchase full size bunk beds in a variety of materials that include metal, pine, oak or maple wood. The support for a bunk bed is critical if using it for teenagers, and buyers must be sure it can support the amount of weight comfortably to avoid premature breaking or accidents.
