DIY: Canopy Bed Curtain Rod Mounting

Some canopy beds come with a simple wooden frame raised above the perimeter of the bed. You can affix curtain rods and curtains or fabric to this frame for a unique, detailed canopy. If your bed doesn't feature a raised frame, you can still make it into a canopy bed by suspending decorative curtain rods from the ceiling above the mattress. Curtains hung from the rods will hang down to encase the bed and give your bedroom a private, romantic look.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width and length of the bed from the outer edges of the frame base or canopy frame. Purchase four decorative curtain rods long enough to fit each section.

    • 2

Mark the spot on the ceiling or canopy frame where each rod bracket will be placed. Space the brackets evenly across the length of each side of the bed.

    • 3

Drill holes the same diameter of each screw in the ceiling where each bracket screw will be installed. Hammer a drywall anchor into each hole. The open end of the drywall anchors should be visible through the mounting holes in each bracket when the bracket is held up to the anchors.

    • 4

Screw the mounting hardware into the ceiling or the canopy frame. Screw into the drywall anchors if mounting the brackets to the ceiling.

    • 5

Slip the rods through the rod pockets in the curtains, then slide the rods into the brackets. Tighten the tension screws to secure the rods to the brackets.

    • 6

Drape the curtains around the bed as desired.
