Choose the area of your home best suited for relaxation and sleeping when setting up your pallet. If you're setting up a pallet during the winter months, choose a warm area away from drafty windows. If you're setting up a pallet during the summer months, choose a spot near a fan or your home's air conditioning system. If possible, set up your pallet on a carpeted area to enjoy as much cushioning as possible.
Choose the thickest and most comfortable blankets and pillows to set up your pallet. Lay the fluffiest blankets and comforters down first, as these will be be the base of your pallet. Cover the final layer of the sleeping pallet with two clean sheets, so you won't feel overheated while sleeping. Cover the sheets with an additional blanket or comforter, to cover your body and keep you warm during the night. Place your pillow at the head of the pallet, on top of the bottommost sheet.
Keep additional blankets handy in in case you get cold during the night and need to add more covers. If your pallet isn't soft enough, pad the bottom with extra blankets or fold the large comforters in half to add thickness. If you experience a shortage of blankets and comforters, pad the bottom of your pallet with clean towels or clothes. Don't pad your pallet with pillows. Make sure everything you use can form a long, even cushion. Pillows will move and separate throughout the night and won't support your body properly.
