How to Insert the Circular Rod of a Canopy for a Bed

Bed canopies that assemble with circular rods use the bedposts to hold the canopy material overhead. The tubes connect near the top of the four posts. This design is typically much easier to install than ceiling-mounted canopies that require drilling. Circular rods fit into pre-drilled holes on the bed itself, so no special tools are necessary. Get a friend to help hold the canopy in position while you insert the rods.

Things You'll Need

  • Bed canopy fitted to the bed size, such as queen or king.

Instructions

    • 1

Unfold the canopy to locate the four tubes on the top edges for inserting the circular rods. The canopy has two short ends for the head and foot of the bed, and two long ends for the sides to form a rectangle.

    • 2

Slide the two shorter rods into the canopy tubes for the head and foot of the bed. Push the canopy along the rod so the material does not bunch up. Insert the two longer rods into the tubes for the sides of the canopy.

    • 3

Lift the canopy by the longer rods on the sides. Ask a friend to help hold a rod on the other side of the bed.

    • 4

Insert the end of one of the side rods into the socket at the top of the head post. Bend the rod gently to guide the tip on the other end into the socket on the post at the foot of the bed.

    • 5

Connect the other side rod to the head and foot posts.

    • 6

Attach the two short rods between the two head posts at one end and the foot posts at the other.

    • 7

Drape the fabric of your canopy downward over the sides of the mattress and arrange the material as desired. For example, you can draw the canopy back and tie it at one side to a bed post, or allow it to hang like an enclosure around the bed.
