Cute Ways to Place a Bed in a Bedroom

While the most common way to arrange a bedroom is with the bed centered against a wall, it is not always the most unique or interesting. You may want to find a fun way to place the bed in a child's bedroom or even find an unexpected arrangement for a master bedroom. The size and layout of the room may determine the placement that will work best for your space, but you can choose from several options for a cute, unusual look for your bed.
  1. Center It

    • In a large bedroom, place your bed in the center of the room instead of against a wall. It is a particularly effective option if you have a highly decorative bed frame you want to showcase, such as a four-poster or canopy bed. You can hang a chandelier above the bed to emphasize the center of the room as the focal point. To anchor the bed so it doesn’t feel as if it is floating in the middle of nowhere, place an upholstered bench or trunk at the foot of the bed and a console table behind the bed to take the place of nightstands. In a children’s room, decorate the bed frame with string lights or beads to provide an even more whimsical look.

    Find an Alcove

    • If you want to create a cozy, cute look for your bed, place it in an alcove. Setting your bed in a small, enclosed area gives it an intimate feel and opens up floor space in the room for other furniture items. If the alcove features a window, you can hang sheer curtains to give the bed area a bright, airy feeling. You can build an alcove for your bedroom if it doesn’t already have one by adding a few basic walls. You can make the alcove feel even cozier by dropping the ceiling above your bed as well.

    Loft It

    • Elevating your bed can give it a prominent spot in your bedroom as well. Commonly used in children’s bedrooms and dorm rooms, a loft bed also provides the added benefit of freeing up floor space for other furniture and accessories. You can loft the bed in a master bedroom as well since king and queen loft beds are available from specialty manufacturers. Set up a desk and home office in the space beneath a loft bed or create a cozy reading nook by adding a bookcase and armchair. If you are short on closet space, place a dresser and rolling clothing rack beneath the bed to create an additional area for clothing storage. Whatever use you choose for the space beneath your loft bed, consider hanging a curtain from the bottom of the frame to make the area more private and hide any clutter or mess.

    Surround with Curtains

    • Surrounding your bed with curtains can create an interesting, elegant look. You can place the bed against the wall of your choice, though it usually helps if you place the long side against the wall. Install rods on the ceiling above the bed to hang curtains or fabric panels. You can place rods just in front of the bed and tie the curtains back, or place rods along three sides of the bed, so you can pull the curtains closed and enclose your bed fully. This look works well for a girl’s bedroom, but you can adopt it in a master bedroom for a romantic look as well.
