How to Make a Net Bed Canopy With Wooden Embroidering Hoop

An embroidery hoop is actually a set of two hoops, an inner hoop and an outer hoop with a tightening screw. The piece of embroidery goes between the two hoops, which keeps the surface taut so you can sew more precisely. The hoops hold fabric so effectively that you can use them to create your own bed canopy with a lightweight fabric. Off-white netting will create a safari look, or you can use a sheer colored netting for an airy, romantic feel.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 44-inch-wide netting panels, your choice of length
  • Sewing machine
  • 2 pieces string or ribbon, your choice of length and color
  • Electric drill
  • Eye hook

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the outer embroidery hoop. Remove the inner hoop and set it aside.

    • 2

Fold the top edge of two 44-inch-wide netting panels over, creating a 2-inch hem. Sew the fold in place along the bottom edge. Leave both ends open so it creates a pocket similar to the rod pocket on standard curtains.

    • 3

Slide the two pockets of the panels onto the embroidery hoop. Adjust the netting so it flows down evenly on all sides of the hoop. Replace the inner hoop and retighten the outer hoop screw.

    • 4

Tie two pieces of decorative ribbon or string onto the hoop, placing one on each side between the two netting panels. Slide the panels back over the knots to cover them.

    • 5

Drill a pilot hole into the ceiling with an electric drill, then screw in an eye hook. Lift the canopy up to the hook. Tie the two pieces of string or ribbon in a knot or bow and hook the knot or bow onto the eye hook.

Arrange the netting so it hangs down over the bed in the way you want.
