Ideas for Funky Mirrored Headboards

You don’t need to have a lot of money to have a dramatic bedroom. All you need is a funky headboard that fits your style. When you use mirrors in your headboard design you add an element that will help keep your room light, bright and ever changing with the surrounding environment. Repurpose vintage mirrors or create something totally new when you design a mirrored headboard.
  1. Glamorous Chic

    • Nothing is more romantic and rich-looking than a large, gilded mirror. Whether it’s an authentic antique or a homemade reproduction, a statement piece like this makes a funky headboard.

Extra large mirrors with carved wood frames are available at architectural salvage shops or can be found at online auctions. When placed it behind a bed it instantly transforms the bedroom into a wealthy space to relax in. A more budget-friendly option will be to find an extra large mirror, near the width of the bed and close to the height of the ceiling, and purchase heavy wood frame pieces to customize it. Paint the wood frame gold then mount onto the surface of the mirror with hook and loop self-sticking tape. You’ll get a similar rich look with your own funky spin.

    Framed Mirror Design

    • Home décor and improvement stores sell medium-sized wall hanging mirrors that are framed in decorative square or round frames. When you purchase multiple, identical framed mirrors you can assemble a funky headboard that will look like an expensive custom job. Get the job done in one trip by measuring the wall space from the top of your mirror to the ceiling, and width of the bed. Look at the dimensions of the framed mirror you like and calculate the number of mirrors you’ll need by dividing the wall space by the dimensions of the mirrors. Attach them to the wall with hook and loop, peel and stick tape, in a grid pattern much like you would lay tile. Take this funky headboard all the way to the ceiling to create a dramatic custom look.

    Farm Fresh

    • Yard sale shoppers and those who troll the architectural salvage shops know that vintage windows come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. When you come upon a huge fan window from an old barn or a multi-paned storm window with a funky red paint job you have the raw materials for a truly eye-catching mirrored headboard.
Custom-cut mirror glass to fit in the window pane area or simply mount a large mirror behind a rectangular storm window frame and hang behind the bed on the wall. The result will be a three dimensional headboard that adds architectural interest to a cookie-cutter bedroom. Consider covering the painted or chipping paint job on the windows with some clear sealant to protect yourself from scratchy edges and potential lead paint chips.

    Mini Mirrors

    • An ideal project for the obsessive-compulsive family member, use small rectangular mirrors from your local hobby shop to create an outstanding mirror-collage headboard that will make your bedroom funky. An easy approach to this project is to cut a piece of plywood the size you want your headboard to be and to use hot glue to attach individual mirrors to fill the board. Once you start with a straight line you can lay each mirror “tile” quickly to fill the board. A more dramatic approach is to use mosaic mirror pieces to fill the board for an intricately designed and light deflecting and reflecting final piece.
