With years of wear and use, wooden bed frames become loose and begin to squeak. The hardware that holds a wooden frame may also loosen over time, and when weight or pressure is placed on the area, squeaking results. It is also common for friction to occur when too much pressure is placed on either the headboard or foot board. Recentering the box spring and mattress on the frame should quickly resolve this issue.
Squeaks caused by hardware on a wooden frame are easily remedied with ordinary bar soap. After removing the box spring and mattress from the frame, remove each screw one at a time. Fill the grooves of the screw with soap by running each screw over a bar until the surface is covered. One by one, replace the screws, and put the box spring and mattress back in place.
Just as powder does wonders to help stop squeaks in hardwood floors, the same is true for a wooden bed frame. Any type of powder — baby, talcum or graphite — solves the problem. First identify the squeaky area, and then sprinkle powder in the grooves.
A loose wooden bed frame makes for a squeaky one, too. To restore your frame to its original condition, apply a fresh application of glue at the joints where you hear the squeaky sounds. Give the glue ample time to dry, according to the manufacturer’s directions, and set the box spring and mattress back in place.
