Does Powder Help a Squeaky Bed Frame?

You’ve heard of things that go bump in the night, and with a little wear and tear on a bed, you’re very likely to hear of things that squeak in the night, too. A squeaky bed is no restful place to be, for those trying to sleep or possibly others nearby. Fortunately, there are some easy ways to address the problem, even if they are temporary solutions.
  1. Stop Squeaks With Powder

    • One remedy for a squeaky wooden floor can also be applied to a squeaky bed frame. Remove the box spring and mattress to find the source of the squeak and sprinkle talcum, baby or graphite powder. The powder reduces friction and offers a short-term solution for the noise.

    Stop Squeaks With Oil

    • A quick spritz of lubricant oil on the bed frame’s hardware will also get rid of the squeaky noise. Give yourself permission to jump on the bed and find the squeaky area. Spray it with the oil. As with the powder, this may be only a temporary solution, so be prepared to reapply, if needed.

    Stop Squeaks With Soap

    • While the soap approach is bit more time consuming, it works, too. Remove the box spring and mattress from the bed frame and remove the screws one at a time. Rub each of the screws in a bar of soap until the grooves are coated. Put the screws back in place.

    Use Glue

    • After years of use, it’s normal for a wooden frame to become loose and begin to squeak. A quick fix to restore your frame to its quiet condition is to apply a fresh coat of glue to the joints. Let the glue dry for the specified time according to the manufacturer’s directions. Put the box spring and mattress back into place.
