How to Make a Fancy Bed

Choose a fancy headboard that represents the overall look you want for the bed. The headboard is a more expensive decor purchase and needs to be well-suited to your style. Fancy headboards can be colorful with ornate rims and are rarely square. However, you can pick any headboard shape or color you like and that works for your room. Alternatively, choose a four-poster or canopy bed for a romantic, elegant look.

Add a bed skirt to the bed. Bed skirts are semi-permanent additions, so they need careful choosing. Opt for neutral colors that are flexible if you vary your bedding. Black, brown, cream and taupe work well in many color schemes. You can also coordinate your bed skirt with the colors in your headboard. For example, if you chose a white headboard, try adding a white bed skirt to the bed.

Make the bed with quality sheets. The higher the thread count, the better the quality. High-quality sheets don't just feel wonderful, they also look luxurious. The fine weave is noticeable even before you touch them. Choose solid colors because the sheet is only visible when you turn it back over your comforter or duvet cover. The solid color won't detract from the pattern and texture on your comforter.

Choose a silk comforter with intricate embroidery for the bed. These comforters are fancy as well as look and feel great. The comforter makes the biggest statement for the bed so take the opportunity to be really fancy. Go with patterns or colors that stand out and make a statement. For example, if you are trying to create a cool, tranquil and luxurious room, use an aquamarine comforter with embroidery details.

Add throw pillows to the bed in complementing colors. Use pillows of different sizes and shapes. These pillows are made out of higher-end fabrics, such as silk, and aren't meant for sleeping. The more pillows you use, the fancier the bed looks. Use two or more colors when choosing pillows. For example, with the aquamarine comforter, add white, cream, foam green and aquamarine pillows.
