How to Keep a Pillow-Top Mattress From Sagging

Pillow-top mattresses have an extra layer of soft padding. But like many mattresses, pillow-tops are susceptible to sagging. This can occur as dents, unevenness or decreased support. It is important to prevent sagging, as repairing the mattress is not possible. Regular care will minimize the risk of sagging.

Instructions

    • 1

Alternate your sleep positions and the areas where you sleep on the mattress.

    • 2

Remove the sheets and bedding from the mattress.

    • 3

Lift up the mattress; have another person help you if necessary. Rotate the mattress 180 degrees so that the top of the mattress is now at the foot of the bed.

    • 4

Inspect the underside of the mattress. If you have a pillow-top mattress that is two-sided, i.e., pillow tops on both sides, proceed to Step 5. Otherwise, replace the sheets and bedding.

    • 5

Lift up the mattress and flip it over so that the topside is now facing down on the box spring.

    • 6

      Replace the sheets and bedding.

    • 7

Repeat these steps every few months.
