How to Drain a California King Waterbed

A California king waterbed holds about 180 gallons of water and weighs almost 1,500 pounds. The exterior frame and decking must be placed directly in the center of the pedestal base for the weight to be distributed evenly. A waterbed this size can't be moved when the mattress is full of water. If you need to move the bed or disassemble the frame for any reason, you will need to drain the water from the mattress.

Instructions

  1. Use a Faucet Adapter

    • 1

Strip the sheets and mattress pad from the bed. Pull the valve cover out of the mattress and attach a garden hose to the valve.

    • 2

Connect the other end of the garden hose to a water bed faucet adapter, and attach the adapter to a sink faucet.

    • 3

Turn the adapter valve to the "up" position and turn the water on.

    • 4

Turn the valve to the "down" position and keep the water running. Allow the bed to drain completely, which may take three to four hours.

    Use a Garden Hose

    • 5

Strip the sheets and mattress pad from the bed. Pull the valve cover out of the mattress and attach a garden hose to the valve.

    • 6

Connect the hose to an outdoor faucet placed lower than the bed.

    • 7

Turn the water on for 15 seconds, turn it off and remove the hose from the faucet. Allow the water to drain completely from the bed via the hose.
