How to Make a Bed Out of Wood and Cinder Blocks

Create a twin size, industrial-style cinder-block-and-wood platform bed with lumber cut to size from your local home-improvement store. This low-cost do-it-yourself project should cost less than $75 when finished. Assembly can easily be accomplished by one person and should take one hour or less to complete.

Things You'll Need

  • 10 concrete cinder blocks ,8 by 8 by 16-inches
  • One gallon black high-gloss paint
  • 2-inch paint brush
  • Heavy-duty construction adhesive
  • 3/4-inch oak plywood, 45 by 81 inches

Instructions

      Paint to color and seal 10 cinder blocks with black high-gloss paint. Let dry overnight.

      Arrange the blocks in the desired space with two rows of four cinder blocks, with a single cinder block in between the two rows at the top and bottom. Place all blocks with the hole sides down.

      Apply heavy-duty construction adhesive on the top of the corner blocks. Then center and top the cinder blocks with the piece of 3/4-inch oak plywood.

      Finish the project by painting the plywood with black high-gloss paint (or whatever color you prefer).
