How to Drain the Last Bit of Water From a Waterbed That Won't Drain

Removing and disassembling a waterbed first involves draining the vinyl mattress, which holds most of the weight of the bed. The typical method of draining a mattress involves siphoning the water through a garden hose connected to the mattress with a plastic adapter. As water empties, the mattress begins to collapse on itself until only a few gallons remain. This is often when the siphoning action stops. Getting that remaining water out of your mattress requires a few extra steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the corners of the mattress farthest from the hose up and toward the mattress drain valve when the water slows to a trickle at the other end of the garden hose.

    • 2

Lift the empty folds of the mattress to force the remaining water downward toward the drain hole. Hold the hose adapter inside the mattress to prevent it from popping out from the pressure.

    • 3

Raise the mattress until all remaining water empties through the hose. Pressing the sides of the mattress together to force the water toward the drain can make the job go faster.
