How to Sew a Loft Bed Curtain

Turn the space under a loft bed into a private retreat. All you need to do is install a shower curtain tension rod under one side of the loft and sew a lightweight curtain to screen the area under the bed. This can create a hide out in a child's room, or a private study area in a dorm. Lightweight woven cotton is an appropriate choice for the curtain fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the curtain rod and the distance from the top of the rod to the floor.

    • 2

Add 8 inches to the height and double the width. Cut the curtain with these measurements.

    • 3

Lay the curtain material right side down on the ironing board. Fold down 1/4 inch on one side edge and iron the fold. Fold down another 3/8 inch to make the side hem. Iron this fold also and fold the other side in the same way.

    • 4

Set the machine to sew a straight stitch with a standard stitch length. Sew the side hems by stitching 1/8 inch from the inside fold.

    • 5

Iron a 1/2-inch fold at the top and bottom of the curtain in the same way you made the folds on the sides. Iron a 3-inch fold at the top at the top for a casing and a 4-inch fold at the bottom for a hem.

    • 6

Sew the casing and the hem by stitching 1/8 inch from the inside fold.
