How to Make a Higher Boxspring

A box spring is a wooden frame base that contains inner springs and is covered with cloth, and it provides support for a mattress. A box spring also provides bed height to assist with getting in and out of the bed, and it absorbs shock and decreases the wear on the mattress. Box springs are typically designed to fit inside a metal bed frame that has L-shaped sides. To increase the height of a box spring, wooden risers can be inserted.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the mattress and box spring from the bed frame. If the mattress and box spring are too heavy, get assistance.

    • 2

Place each wooden bed riser in each corner of the bed frame. The riser should rest inside the L-shaped frame on its side. This will provide a 4-inch height increase.

    • 3

Replace the box spring back on to the bed frame. Be careful not to knock the risers down while re-positioning the box spring. Replace the mattress.
