How to Hang Upholstered Headboards

Hanging an upholstered headboard on the wall is done most easily and securely using flush mounts. These can be purchased at a hardware store. One set of pieces goes on the wall; the other set goes onto the headboard. They slide together when the headboard is placed on the wall for a tight fit.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the upholstered headboard.

    • 2

Use the stud finder to locate the studs in the wall above your mattress.

    • 3

Mark the width of the headboard on the wall above your mattress, and locate the two studs that are farthest apart within the width marks. Mark these studs.

    • 4

Make a mark on the wall where you would like the bottom of the headboard to sit.

    • 5

Measure the height of your headboard.

    • 6

Make marks on the wall at the studs using the height measurement of the headboard minus 6 inches.

    • 7

Hold one piece of the flush mount up to the marks. Make a mark where the holes for the flush mounts should be drilled. Drill holes at each of these marks. Secure one side of each flush mounts pair to the wall, locking point facing up, with screws.

    • 8

Measure in from the marks denoting the sides of your headboard to the center of each of the flush mounts. Write these measurements down, noting right and left if the measurements aren’t even.

    • 9

Measure from the bottom of the headboard to 6 inches below the top of the headboard. Make a mark on the back of the headboard on both sides.

    • 10

Measure in from this mark on each side of the headboard using the measurements of where the flush mounts on the wall are located.

    • 11

Place the other piece of each of the flush mount onto each of these marks. Make a mark where the holes for the flush mounts should be drilled. Drill holes at each of these marks. Secure the remaining sides of each flush mount pair to the headboard, locking point facing down, with screws.

    • 12

Lift the headboard into place, and slide the flush mount pieces together. The assistance of another person may be required to do this.
