How to Connect the Footboard

Most basic metal bed frames are equipped with brackets for attaching a headboard and footboard. The brackets feature slits through which bolts are inserted, then secured to the bolt holes in the footboard legs. A new footboard comes with mounting bolts and washers in the correct size. If your frame is not equipped with brackets, you can purchase a separate set online or from your local furniture store and attach them to the existing frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the ends of the bed frame to determine if you need additional brackets. If there are no flat ends with slits running perpendicular to the frame, purchase and install footboard brackets according to manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Remove the mattress and box spring and hold the footboard up to the end of the bed frame.

    • 3

Line the slits in the brackets up to the mounting holes on the footboard.

    • 4

Fit a washer onto each mounting bolt and thread the bolts through the slits on the end of the frame and into the bolt holes on the footboard. Tighten all the bolts.
