How to Make a Bed Look Like a Floor to Ceiling Poster Bed

The most dramatic beds in castles and fine houses all have one thing in common -- they're surrounded by yards of fabric that create a four-poster look. Whether the bed has posts on the corners or not, swathes of fabric enclosing the mattress give it an over-sized and regal look. Create a bed fit for a king or queen by making a faux four-poster with fabric corner posts.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the fabric into four equal lengths of 4 yards each. Fold up the raw edges on all four pieces and glue them down, forming a hem on each end of the fabric strips.

    • 2

Cut six lengths of pearls by the yard, each pieces measuring 20 inches. Double over the ends of each strand of pearls and glue the strings together, forming a loop. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 3

Staple one loop into the ceiling directly above each corner of the bed. Place two sets of staples into each loop, about 3 inches apart. This will keep the loop open when it hangs down instead of simply hanging like a double line.

    • 4

Staple the remaining two loops to the ceiling above the very center of the bed. Staple one loop so that the part stapled to the ceiling runs from one corner to the other corner diagonally above the bed. Hang the other loop in the other diagonal direction. You will have an X shape stapled to the ceiling with two loops hanging down.

    • 5

Gather one end of a strip of fabric. Tuck it into one of the center-bed loops and staple the fabric bunch to the ceiling. Pull the other end of the fabric strip through one of the corner loops.

    • 6

Pull the fabric until you have a length hanging from the corner loop and puddling on the floor and a swag from the center of the bed to the corner. Manipulate the fabric to create an elegant, draping look.

    • 7

Hang the other three strips of fabric in the same manner, covering the other three corners of the bed. Gather all the fabric in the center into a large bunch to cover the staples.
