How to Build a Tinkerbell Bed

In 1904, J.M. Barrie introduced the world to the land in his imagination; It was called Neverland, the home of Peter Pan -- the boy who refused to grow up -- his Lost Boy companions, Captain Hook and Tinkerbell. The little feisty fairy who loved Peter Pan has been portrayed in different ways over the years, including lights and tinkling bells and Julia Roberts in “Hook," and the most famous portrayal, the animated version of the fairy from Disney’s “Peter Pan.” If you are a Tink fan, create your own Tinkerbell bed based on the image of Tink you like the best.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a flower shape on a piece of 3/4-by-36-by-40-inch plywood. Choose any shape flower you like, such as a rose, daisy or lotus flower. Use as much of the plywood as possible, leaving the bottom edge, which is one of the 40-inch sides, flat.

    • 2

Cut the drawn shape out with a jigsaw. Cut details with a rotary tool, if necessary. Remove any rough edges with medium-grit sandpaper.

    • 3

Paint the flower any color desired using wall paint. Let the paint dry overnight.

    • 4

Draw Tinkerbell on the center of the flower using chalk. Use an image of your favorite representation of her as a guide. Paint Tink using acrylic paint. Start with a base color, such as her skin and hair. Then add facial features and other details after the first coat dries. Let the paint dry for three to five hours.

    • 5

Wet a sponge under running water. Squeeze out the excess water from the sponge and wipe the surface of the painted picture to remove any chalk that remains.

    • 6

Hold the plywood up to the wall. Position the bottom edge of the headboard 1 inch above the height of the top of your mattress. For example, if the top of your mattress is 25 inches from the floor, the bottom of the plywood should be at 26 inches.

Hammer one 2-inch nail through each of the four corners of the plywood directly into the wall; the nails should go into a wall stud so they will hold securely. Position the nails 1 inch in from the edge. Place additional nails every 12 inches along the edge of the plywood to secure it.
