How to Stop Sleep Number Mattresses From Sliding off the Frame

A good night’s rest is nearly impossible if your mattress slips and slides across the bed. Modern beds come in specific sizes, such as queen or king, that fit inside rails or a bed frame. If your bed frame is even an inch wider than your mattress, you might notice the mattress moving. Sleep number mattresses feature a unique design that lets you adjust the firmness of your bed. Despite its capabilities, it is still just a mattress and stopping it from sliding is a simple process.

Instructions

Hold the end of the measuring tape on one side of your bed frame and stretch it across the bed, which gives you the width. Measure the length of the bed frame from the top of the frame to the bottom. The measurement gives you the exact size of the bed.

Purchase two non-skid gripping pads slightly bigger than your measurements. Gripping pads sit underneath rugs and keep the rugs from sliding around the floor. Most home improvement stores and rug shops sell gripping pads of this type.

    • 3

Remove the Sleep Number mattress and box spring from the bed. Place one of the gripping pads on the bottom of the bed frame. Trim off any excess rubber with the scissors, making the pad sit even with the sides of the bed frame or the rails.

Cover the first rubber pad with your box spring. Set the second non-skid pad on top of the box spring. Cut the pad until the sides sit flush with the box spring so they won't stick out from the mattress. Lay your mattress flat on the second pad.

Sit on the bed or lie down and move back and forth. See if the mattress still slides around the bed. If you notice any movement, insert small slips of folded cardboard between the mattress and the sides of the bed. The cardboard makes the mattress sit flush with your bed frame and stops the slipping.
