How to Drain a Waterbed Bell

A bell valve siphon is a convenient tool that allows you to drain your water bed using your kitchen faucet. When the bell valve is depressed, your faucet's water pressure creates suction power that siphon's the water out of the water bed out of the hose. Bell valve siphon's are relatively easy to use. However, pumps vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. Read your pump's and your water bed's manual thoroughly before proceeding.

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the waterbed's heater.

    • 2

Attach the siphon pump to the nearest faucet via the faucet connector. Follow the siphon pump's instructions for attachment methods. Set the bell valve on the siphon pump to the "up" position.

    • 3

Insert the hose securely into the hose connector in the front of the siphon pump. Your siphon pump system may have a specialized fill hose. If it does not, you may need to attach a connector to one or more ends of your garden hose. Follow the siphon pump's instructions for attachment details specific to your model.

Screw the other end of the hose into the fill valve on the waterbed. Push the popped up fill valve down into the mattress.

    • 5

Place heavy books around the plastic fill valve. The weight will prevent air bubbles from entering the siphon hose and interrupting drainage.

    • 6

Turn the water on full force and allow it to run for 10 seconds.

    • 7

Pull the bell valve down so that it remains in the "down" position. Follow the valve's instructions for pulling down the valve. In some models you have to pull the valve down and turn it slightly to the left to keep it in the "down" position.

Allow the water to run until the siphoning action drains the waterbed.
