What Are the Types of Single Beds on the Market?

Loft Bed

• A loft bed is a single bed that is ideal for smaller bedrooms and dorm rooms to maximize space. College students can keep a desk underneath their loft with their computer or place a love seat there to sit and watch television. Loft beds may have anywhere from 5 to 6 feet of space underneath. Railings prevent sleepers from falling out of the bed during the night. Loft beds for children sit a few feet off the ground, and toys and other items can be stored below.

Twin Bed

• A twin bed is the next sleeping spot for children after they become too big for a crib. While the dimensions of a standard twin bed are 28 by 75 inches, all sorts of models are available. Traditional twin beds are made of metal or wood; and for the younger set, there are models that resemble a race car or princess palace. Twin beds may also be connected to bookcases or shelves for storing items.

Bunk Bed

• Bunk beds feature two single beds and are ideal for a room being shared by siblings. With a bunk bed, one single bed is stacked on top of another one. The advantage of having a bunk bed is that it allows two people to sleep in the same room while maximizing floor space. Like a loft, the top bunk features a railing to prevent sleepers from rolling out of bed during the night.

Trundle Bed

• Trundle beds are two single beds that are packed into one space. While the framing may look like a traditional single bed, another bed is stored directly below and can be pulled out when necessary. This comes in very handy for children who like to have friends stay overnight. The single bed underneath can be rolled out on casters, which makes it easy to move in and out.
